Tiny Bird at Hair Fair 2009

Just how many favorites can one have?  When we were kids, we were only allowed one per category: one favorite color, one favorite ice cream flavor, one favorite movie.  Now, though, it feels we’re not so limited.  I can have lots of favorite hair designers across the grid.  Or, maybe, I should pull out that thesaurus and choose another word for favorite.

To the point, Tiny Bird hair, created by the talented Autumn Hykova, is one of my favorites.  Her hair is meticulously crafted with a sense of joie de vivre, and I love it.  I feel pretty and sassy when I wear Tiny Bird creations.  So, I’ve been anxiously waiting to see what her hair fair offerings would be.

She’s given us a great mix of playful and practical styles.  First, in the big picture, is the Swirly style in Ginger.  This is a big fluffy Texas hair, and I love it.  (For those of you not from Texas, you should know that big hair isn’t necessarily intentional — the humidity in Houston make my hair HUGE.)  On the right, from top to bottom, we have Hayden in Wheat, Janie in Dragees, Gattina in Brownie.  Hayden is a very pretty style, with a braid framing the face.  Please note the delicate hairs that define the hairline in front of the braid, and the one strand that comes down over the shoulder – this kind of detail is what really sells me on a hair.  Janie, the middle style, is a great everyday hair, with lots of movement.  You should totally go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw5g7eBV1TA and watch the Hair Fair video; you’ll really get a sense of how this hair looks in motion.  Finally, you have the Gattina style, with big soda can rollers.  This one is playful and cute, and reminds me of being young and reading Seventeen magazine.  They’d have so-called cheap-and-easy styling tips like this, that never seemed to work out for me!  Fortunately, Tiny Bird’s style is much tidier than my attempts ever were.

I should note that the three colors on the right are available in the Olivia color pack.  One of the things I enjoy about shopping at Tiny Bird is that in addition to the traditional color packs like “Reds” and “Blacks,” you can pick up a pack of three mixed colors, for those that like to change up their look without having to buy an expensive fatpack.

i go to a restaurant where the chef hates making large batches of soup that might last more than a few hours. Even more he hates making the same soup twice in a row. So, instead of having a Soup of the Day, the menu list the Soup of the Moment. Perhaps you can have a Favorite of the Moment.
