Pink Hijab Day
Today is Pink Hijab Day around the world. What’s this about, you ask? There are two goals: first, to increase understanding of the hijab, and second, to raise money for a cure for breast cancer. Now, I am not Muslim, but I have a deep respect for the religion and those that follow it, and that respect includes what are often perceived as cultural differences, such as wearing a hijab, or headscarf. Hijab is specifically the headscarf, but also often refers to dressing oneself modestly in general. While I do not usually wear hijab, today I have chosen my wardrobe in support of fellow women who choose to do so. Hijab, for the women wearing it, does not usually mean oppression in the “western” world; most feel empowered and protected. Wearing hijab is not only a symbol of religious submission to God, but also a symbol of feminist empowerment, a celebration of being judged for our minds and not our bodies. › Continue reading
Denim One
This begins what will be a series of jean comparison posts. Most posts will focus on a specific style or cut, such as holey jeans or high-waisted jeans. But, I thought I’d start with a simple post showing the importance of cut, and discuss the factors I consider in a pair of pixellated jeans.
Jeans are ubiquitous in both my lives. I love them; they’re so easy to dress up and dress down for most casual occasions. However, the look you’re going for will determine which pair of jeans you grab from your closet or inventory. The cut of a pair of jeans often determines the mood — take a look at how each of these four pairs of jeans subtly change the overall feel of the outfit.
Now, let’s talk about what makes a pair of jeans unique.
LOTD March 25th
So, finals are over, and I’m back from vacation, and I’m soooo behind on blogging! I’ll kick things off with a quick look of the day I sort of fell into while sorting new inventory.
First, a big thank you to all the designers who gave such lovely, generous gifts during bloggers week! I know I’m a bit late on this, but RL scheduling kept me away from the computer last week.
At any rate, I’m quite fond of this windblown hairstyle from HOH. It feels very natural — you can expect more windswept styles from me coming soon. The aviator glasses are from House of Curios, and combined with the hair, have a very sexy-no-nonsense feel. Skin is from Exodi (formerly Genesis). I wanted a simple makeup that still portrays strength, and I think the lips on the Quaintly makeup do nicely. And, I really like the strong, straight nose on the skin.
The top is part of the very sexy Urban Agenda set from Indyra Originals. (The set also includes gloves, belt, skirt, and pant options, not seen here.) The blouse is sexy as hell, without showing too much skin, and the scrunched sleeves with the ties are a great detail. I paired it with the Cuff Jeans from Hilarious, which I adore. They have a wonderful hand-drawn quality to them, and the pockets are adorable.
The Urban Agenda set includes gloves, as I said, but I’m fond of my +plus biker gloves. They make me feel tough, like I can take on the world. In pointy shiny stilettos, no less. Which, incidentally, are the Glamour Metallic Pumps from Detour — the color-change pair comes in black, red, silver, gold, and white, and they match everything.
Okay, so I think about covers it. Now that I have a bit of free time, I’ll finally be able to catch up on that backlog of items in my “To Blog” folder, and flood you with blogginess in the near future!
