More Houndstooth

A few more houndstooth things for you today, of the non-coat variety.

I’m smitten with this hat, and the attached boy-short hairstyle is adorably unisex.  Unfortunately, it’s no-mod, which really disappoints me, as there aren’t any strong red shades available for the hair.  However, if you’re not a redhead, there are lots of great blonde and brunette shades available via blue-box menu.  The hat itself is also color- and pattern-changeable.

The skirt has great movement, and is a very flattering length, hitting above the knee without being scandalously › Continue reading

Spring Houndstooth

The clocks have been set forward an hour; flowers are beginning to bloom. Spring has arrived, barely — the air’s still a bit chilly.  And I have a serious crush on houndstooth.

I love houndstooth.  I think it’s the dignified, ladylike Queen-Elizabeth-Jackie-O aspect that appeals.  Something about a lady on the street and all that.  At any rate, the pattern is an elegant choice for a light spring jacket, adding structure to the soft spring color palette and florals.

So, obviously, these are houndstooth coats, from a variety of virtual shopkeepers.  I’m partial to › Continue reading

Feature: Reel Expression Innocence Poses

The lovely and talented Luth Brodie of Reel Expression made some new poses a while back, and they are as usual gorgeous. The set’s called Innocence — I’ve dressed in a less-innocent outfit in order to show the expressiveness of the poses.

So, we’ll run through my pose criteria, starting with expression.  These poses are stunning.  If you dressed your av in an innocent way, they express innocence, as the title implies. In any other outfit, they’ll also express a bit of shyness and especially a certain vulnerability.  They express the beauty of self-doubt — and yes, a bit of self-doubt in an otherwise confident person is beautiful.  After all, flawlessness is dead boring. Our human frailties are › Continue reading

Feature: Moo Love

This post will be a bit different than my usual.  A bit ago, the lovely moo Money sent me a copy of her recent release, the Sweet on You textures. I imagine the obvious use as a blogger would be treat them as scrapbooking patterns, but I don’t scrapbook.  As they may also be used as resources in the creative process, I’ve used them as such — I couldn’t properly evaluate them without doing so.

So, I’ve created a line of my Signature Tees using the Sweet on You textures.  I played a bit with various PhotoShop effects, and manipulated the textures themselves, scaling and rearranging the elements to create interest.  I also took the textures, messed with them a bit, and created a simple photoble, to use the textures as a background. (The floor and ceiling textures are also from made by moo.)

Now, about the texture pack: it contains › Continue reading

Frecklefaces like makeup!

We talk a lot about shading, about the qualities that make a skin “good.”  And then we get to the makeups.  My face is the part of the av I spend the most time looking at, and I usually pick skins for blog posts based on the “look” — usually, that’s achieved through makeup.  If you don’t buy fatpacks of skins, it’s the makeup that determines which skin in a particular line we want to buy.  If a skin creator doesn’t have the makeup we’re looking for, we’ll often walk away.

Above, you can see three makeups each from three different creators.  The first row is › Continue reading

News!

I’m so pleased to announce a some major changes to my blog! I have a new look and a new address: I’ve moved from sarahthered.wordpress.com to sarahthered.com. This move has been made possible thanks to my sponsor, Alderson & Charron’s Third Life Books. In acknowledgment, you’ll notice a new Sponsorship section in the right-hand column of the blog, with a link to their web page.

I’ve also edited the title of the blog. Where I once was What? Another Fashion Blog?, I’m now Red and Re-Read: What? Another Fashion Blog?)  I wish I could take credit for the clever wordplay, but I’m afraid it’s all Kat Alderson’s work. I also need to acknowledge Stacie Pryor, who has been and remains an influence in my blogging, and is a total dollface.  I also adore Anya Ohmai for her help in tweaking the CSS of the new blog theme. <3

And, I don’t know how to say this without sounding totally cheesy, but thank you for reading.  I know “dear readers” is a total cliché, but it’s true — without you, I’d have no motivation to put together the pictures and words and whatnot; I’d just be talking to a bunch of LEDs in a monitor, and that would be lame.  Also, those of y’all who write awesome blogs and take awesome pictures — I may never have gotten into this without your influence.

So, <3 to you all, and to Third Life Books, and y’all who have supported me along the way.  I celebrate this milestone with you.

Freckleface: Mei Li

Thought I’d take a few pictures of this lovely skin and share it with you.  There aren’t very many Asian skins with freckles; I find this one particularly pretty.

Adam n Eve’s Mei Li skin is available in › Continue reading

Cowgirl boots

You would think that, being from Texas, I would have a life-long love of cowboy boots, but you’d be wrong.  For years, I fought against a western look, thinking that in doing so, I was fighting against the stereotype that all Texans wear Wranglers, ride horses, and own cattle or oil wells.  The truth is, I grew up in a city of over a million people, and I’m no rodeo girl.

But, what can I say, I’m a sucker for trends.  The cowgirl boot is in, and maybe I’m grown up enough (or immature enough) to accept and enjoy messing with peoples’ assumptions.

So, here are three cowgirl boots in SL.  First, about their SL-shoe-ness.  All three styles attach the boot at the ankle, rather than the foot.  This is good for photos, as you won’t get wonky broken ankles, but bad if you were planning on wearing pants with a cuff attachment.  The three boots fit differently — if you look at the comparision photos, you’ll see that the Adam n Eve boots sit very high on the leg, while the Kalnins sit rather low.  All three use sophisticated sculpt shapes, and all three are meticulously textured.

Now, about the boots.  The above criteria are really specific to the virtual world we live in; the next comparison points apply equally to non-virtual boots.  The most obvious difference in the boots is › Continue reading

Look of the Day: January 22nd

It’s been a long time since I did a look of the day.  Usually, my look of the day is whatever outfit I’m wearing for another blog post.  However, I’ve decided to start sharing my “running around the grid” looks, because, well, I like them.

I like to wear simple, comfortable looks when I’m hanging out in the skybox, or running around the grid.  I don’t accessorize much; I just like to throw together a few › Continue reading
